Why Do I Need A
Waterproofing System?

If you want your property to be free of condensation, mould, and all that water can bring with it, a waterproofing system is a great way to do so. Water can cause significant structural damage to buildings, leading to expensive repairs or even the need for a complete rebuild. In addition to structural damage, water damage can also lead to mould growth, which can pose a health risk to occupants.

There’s no one way to waterproof a property, as all homes and buildings are different. That’s why here at Metro Waterproofing, we offer tailored solutions with several systems. Whether your property is existing or a new build, large or small, or completely unique, we’ve got the waterproofing solution for you.

Types Of Waterproofing

There are several types of basement waterproofing, as each property is different and the method that works best for one property may not work in another.

Type A

The Type A waterproofing system is known as tanking. This is where we apply a waterproof render or tanking slurry to your basement’s walls and floor, which acts as a barrier to keep water from outside getting into your property.

This type of waterproofing needs a good bond to the substrate, which means it’s not suitable for every property. If you have a brick basement, it will need preparation which can create a lot of debris and may not result in a good bond. This can also increase the risk of movement and render the waterproofing invalid for warranty purposes. While it’s a good method for some properties, it isn’t for all, which is why you should seek the advice of a CSSW qualified surveyor such as our team at Metro Waterproofing.

Type B

Type B waterproofing is designed to make the structure itself integrally waterproof and make the residence resistant to water ingress. Type B waterproofing is typically installed during the construction phase of a building and involves the use of water-resistant concrete or other specialised materials that are added to the building’s foundation or walls. These materials work together to create a waterproof barrier that prevents water from penetrating into the building.

Type C

Type C waterproofing is often referred to as a Cavity Drainage Membrane or a Basement Drainage System. Unlike with Type A, there is little preparation needed so that there will be less disruption to your home or property. We do Type C waterproofing by installing and applying a polymer-studded membrane to the walls and floor of the basement, and using drainage channels around the outside that leads to your existing drainage system.
